I have been a Drum and Bugle Corps fan since my High School days. After High School, I marched with a small Corps called the Devil Dogs, and then in 1979, I was a charter member of Suncoast Sound. I marched with Suncoast for two years, and I was Percussion Caption Head in 1979, not that there was much caption to head. The bulk of our drumline was made up of saxophone players who couldn't play a horn. When we topped 10.00 in 1980, you'd have thought we'd won finals. Suncoast went on to greater glory after I marched (surely a coincidence), but I'm proud to say I was there at the beginning. In the 90s, an attempt was made to start a Senior Corps in the Tampa Bay area, and I marched with them for the duration of their existence. Unfortunately, the existence of the American Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps was short-lived, due to a lack of money and bodies. |
